PRJ98: ODBC Error Saving Changes to Project in Database (195158)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you save changes to a project that you opened from a database via ODBC, you may receive the following error message:

There is an ODBC error accessing the database.
The following error was returned by the ODBC driver:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Connection Failure
To display the SQL statement that resulted in this error, click
View SQL.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when both of the following conditions are true:

The database to which you saved the project is accessed via a network using ODBC.
-and-
The network connection to the database is lost while working in Microsoft Project.

NOTE: This behavior may occur even if the network connection is restored.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:

On the File menu, click Save As and save your project to your local hard disk.
On the File menu, click Exit.
Restart Microsoft Project.
On the File menu, click Open.
Select the project you saved in step 1 and click Open.
On the File menu, click Save As and click ODBC. Select the database to which you want to save your project. When prompted to overwrite your database, click Overwrite.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
