PRJ98: Incorrect Resource Work After Undo Drag of Progress Bar (195151)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q195151 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, in a Resource Sheet or Resource Usage view, resource Work and resource Percent Work Complete fields may contain incorrect values.
NOTE: Because resource Remaining Work and resource Work Variance are
calculated based on resource Work, these fields will also contain incorrect
values in the Resource Sheet and Resource Usage views.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when you do the following:
- In a Gantt Chart view, you use the mouse to make a task 100
percent complete by dragging the progress bar.
- You undo the drag by clicking Undo Drag on the Edit
menu, or by clicking the Undo button on the Standard
toolbar.
In this situation, resource work and resource percent work complete are not
recalculated correctly. The incorrect values are visible when you include
resource Work and resource Percent Work Complete in the table of the
Resource Sheet and Resource Usage views.
WORKAROUNDTo Avoid This Problem
To correctly undo the setting of percent complete on a task, do not drag a
progress bar on the Gantt Chart to make a task 100% complete. Instead,
enter 100 percent complete for a task, using any of the following methods.
Method 1: Enter Percent Complete in Task Information for the Task:
To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- Click anywhere in the task.
- On the Project menu, click Task Information.
- In the Task Information dialog box, click the General
tab. In the Percent Complete box, type
100%, and then click OK.
Method 2: Enter Percent Complete in the Update Tasks Dialog Box:
To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- Click anywhere in the task.
- On the Tools menu, point to Tracking, and then click
Update Tasks.
- In the Update Tasks dialog box, type
100% in the % Complete box, and then
click OK.
Method 3: Enter Percent Complete in the Tracking Table of a Task View:
To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart or Task
Usage.
- On the View menu, point to Table and then click
Tracking.
- In the %Comp. column for the task, type
100%, and then press ENTER.
To Correct This Problem
To work around this problem, reenter task percent complete using either of
the following methods.
Method 1: Reenter Percent Complete in Task Percent Complete Field:
To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- On the View menu, point to Table, and then click
Tracking.
- In the %Comp. column, click in the cell containing percent
complete for the task you are correcting, retype the value currently
contained in the cell, and then press ENTER.
Method 2: Reenter Task Percent Complete in Task Form:
To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- On the Window menu, click Split.
- In the Task Form in the lower pane, click in the box next to
% Complete, retype the value currently contained in the box,
and then click OK.
