PRJ98: Resource Pool Cannot Be Updated Error When Cancel Update (195149)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you cancel an update or refresh of a resource pool, you may receive the following message:
The resource pool cannot be updated at this time. Microsoft Project cannot update the pool because it is currently opened by another user.
In addition, your resource pool may close and your project may appear to not be linked to the resource pool.

This message may appear even if another user is not using the resource pool.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:

  • The resource pool is saved to a database, such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle.

    -and-

  • You cancel the Update Resource Pool or Refresh Resource Pool operation in the database login dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, close the project and save changes when prompted. After you close the project, reopen it. The connection to the resource pool is reestablished. Additionally, the resource pool updates with any changes made since it was closed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
