SBS: Uninstall of Exchange 5.5 Error: Entry Point Not Found (195120)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server includes Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 along with Service Pack 2 for Exchange. If you attempt to uninstall Exchange Server, the following error message appears:
Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point UIDecodeEUC_KR@24 could not be located in the dynamic library GAPI32.dll.

CAUSE

When you uninstall, Exchange Server setup is run from the CD and all system files are in the same directory as Setup.exe. As a result, setup will load Gapi32.dll from the CD instead of using the one from the hard disk drive. Because the files are not identical (the one on the hard disk drive is the SP2 version and the one on the CD is the SP1 version), the error noted above is displayed.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, rename or move Gapi32.dll from the c:\Winnt\System32 folder, and then copy Gapi32.dll from the compact disc to your hard disk drive using the following command:

copy drive:\server\setup\I386\gapi32.dll c:\winnt\system32

NOTE: drive is letter of your CD-ROM drive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5.
