PUB98: Text Formatting Lost When Using Calendar Wizard (195088)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q195088

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Calendar Wizard and change the size of the text on more than one page to anything other than the default size, the page will lose changes and revert back to the original default size.

CAUSE

Publisher synchronizes similar elements, referred to as Smart Objects or repeated design elements (such as a logo, coupon, ad, calendar, or personal information components), that have a wizard associated with them. All related elements are changed for you so that you do not have to change each one yourself.

WORKAROUND

To keep Publisher from synchronizing similar objects in your publications, click Undo Synchronize on the Edit menu after Publisher synchronizes the objects. This can be performed after briefly seeing the message:

"Changing Your Publication"

You can save your publication in its unsynchronized state by clicking Save on the File menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you decide to turn synchronization back on for your publication, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Editing And User Assistance tab.
  3. Under User Assistance, click Click to Reset Wizard Synchronizing.
  4. Click OK.
When you turn on synchronization, your synchronized object will not automatically change to have the same formatting or content. However, when you make additional changes, the synchronized objects will again be updated.
