PI: Adjusting or Disabling Media Manager Indexing (194875)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Media Manager 1.5
This article was previously published under Q194875 SUMMARY
Media Manager Indexer, by default, runs at the startup of Windows. It is
set by default to index every 30 minutes but it can be reset to run less
often. This is most often the cause of the system seeming to run much
slower after installation of Media Manager.
The Media Manager Indexer can be adjusted or disabled by taking the
following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Microsoft Media Manager icon. The Media Manager window
appears.
- Click the Indexer page, and then specify how often you want to update
the index for your root folders.
- Click OK.
MORE INFORMATION
The amount of time that the Indexer requires for indexing a folder depends
on the total number of files, the number of files that have changed since
the last time they were indexed, and the speed of your system. If your
files do not change very often, you may want to update the index for your
files less often during working hours to lessen the impact of the Indexer
on the performance of your computer.
