SYMPTOMS
When you create, view, or print a paper project, areas where you placed an
image may contain a colored square.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the graphics import filter is damaged.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall the graphics import filter. To do this,
follow these steps:
- Quit all running programs.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
- In the Named box, type "gifimp32.flt wmfimp32.flt" (without quotation marks), and then click Find Now.
- In the list of found files, right-click the Gifimp32.flt file, and
then click Rename.
- Type "gifimp32.old" (without quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
- In the list of found files, right-click the Wmfimp32.flt file, and
then click Rename.
- Type "wmfimp32.old" (without quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
- Reinstall Home Publishing 99, and then test the software to check if
the issue is resolved. If the issue continues to occur, continue to the
next step.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems
that may require you to reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry
Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys
And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and
Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics
in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you
edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your
Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).
- Use Registry Editor to delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\GIF
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\WMF
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\
Export\GIF
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\
Export\WMF
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\
Import\GIF
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\
Import\WMF
- Reinstall Home Publishing 99.
