This article is designed to help a Small Business Server (SBS) customer
configure and connect his or her server to the Internet and then be able to
provide basic Internet services to computers connected to the SBS Server
through the Local Area Network (LAN).
After following the steps in this article, the reader should be able to
set up a Small Business Server with Internet connectivity to allow for the
following functionality:
- Allow the SBS Server to connect to the Internet manually or
automatically if initiated by the Proxy Service,
- Allow SBS Client Machines to trigger the SBS Server to connect to
Internet via Proxy Auto-Dial,
- Provide for Web Browsing and individual POP3 email access from the
Server and all SBS Clients.
NOTE:
This article does NOT explain the setup of Exchange Server w/SMTP or POP3,
or the Internet Mail Service and e-mail queuing.
This article assumes the reader is not using the Internet Signup Wizard and
has an existing account with an Internet Service Provider. This article
also assumes the reader has a basic knowledge of the Internet and related
terminology.
