OFF98: Euro Symbol Replaced By Word End-of-Cell Marker (194466)

When you open a document in a Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition
program, one or more characters have been replaced by the character that
represents the Word end-of-cell marker.
When you open a workbook in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, one or
more characters have been replaced by boxes.
CAUSE
This problem will occur when the following conditions are true:
- You open a document that was created in an Office for Windows program in
any Office 98 program that contains the Euro currency symbol.
-and-
- You are running Macintosh Operating System (OS) 8.5.
-and-
- You have installed the Office 98 Update for Mac OS 8.5.
-and-
- You are not using a Euro-compatible font.
RESOLUTION
You must switch to a Euro-compatible font in order to display the Euro
symbol. The following is a list of Euro-compatible fonts that are installed
with Macintosh OS 8.5:
Capitals
Charcoal
Chicago
Courier
Gadget
Geneva
Helvetica
Monaco
New York
Palatino
Sand
Techno
Textile
Times
NOTE: The fonts that are installed by Microsoft Office 98 are not Euro-
compatible.
