When you use Outlook Express and you attempt to open the Address Book, you
may receive the following error message:
The Address Book could not be launched. A required component is
missing, please re-install Outlook Express.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the long folder name for the Outlook Express
folder is missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, restore the long folder name by following these
steps:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
- In the Named box, type "outloo" (without quotation marks), and
then click Find Now.
- In the list of found files, locate the Outlook Express folder. This
folder is usually located in the Program Files folder and may have a
short folder name of Outloo~1.
- Right-click the Outlook Express folder, click Rename, type "Outlook
Express" (without quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
- When you are prompted to verify that you want to rename the read-only
folder, click Yes.
- Quit the Find program.
