SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to convert your hard disk to the file allocation table 32 (FAT32) file system, you may receive the following message and your computer may stop responding (hang):

Iomega Guest Driver Version x finding a drive letter for Iomega zip drive

If you then restart your computer, you may receive an error message that says that the FAT32 conversion process was not successful.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Iomega Guest Driver program (Guest.exe) is automatically loading from the Dosstart.bat file in the Windows folder.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, modify the Dosstart.bat file so that the Iomega Guest Driver program is not automatically loaded. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Restart your computer normally.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files And Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type "dosstart.bat" (without quotation marks), and then click Find Now.
  4. In the list of found files, right-click the Dosstart.bat file, and then click Edit.
  5. Type "rem" and a blank space (without quotation marks) at the beginning of the Guest.exe line.
  6. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Exit on the File menu.
  7. Quit the Find program.
