This article was previously published under Q194244 For a Microsoft FrontPage 2000 version of this article, see 205662.
For a Microsoft FrontPage 97 version of this article, see 186263.
SYMPTOMS
When you give a file or folder a name that begins with an underscore ("_")
character, the file disappears from view. If you attempt to recreate the
file, you will be asked if you want to replace the file.
CAUSE
In FrontPage, a file or folder name that begins with an underscore
character has special meaning. The file or folder becomes "invisible" or
hidden as a means for protecting sensitive files and folders.
RESOLUTION
To view hidden folders and files in FrontPage, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Web Settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In the Options section, click to select the "Show documents in hidden
directories' check box. Click OK.
You will now be able to see all files and folders whose names begin with an
underscore character.
