FAX Recipients Discarded As Addresses Were Not Fax Numbers (194034)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0a
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q194034 SYMPTOMS
When you send or print to the fax printer device using addresses in the
Personal Address Book, the following pop-up message is displayed:
Some recipients were discarded because their addresses don't appear to be fax numbers.
CAUSE
The reason the other fax addresses failed is because the fax client reads
in a specific area of the address book entry for the number and, if that
area contains information other than the number, it treats this as an e-
mail address and discards it. The Microsoft Fax Client has additional
fields and it would be very unlikely that the fax number would fall in the
same location.
RESOLUTION
To correct the problem where you see a message about recipients being
discarded, following these steps:
- On the toolbar click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Mail and Fax, and then delete Microsoft Fax Client if it is in the list of services. (Microsoft Fax Client is a Windows 95 Fax solution based on local modems, and is not compatible with the SBS fax server.)
- Add Fax Mail Transport and Fax Address Book.
- Create new fax addresses inside the Exchange Client Personal Address Book.
- Verify that faxing now functions properly.
MORE INFORMATION
The Fax Mail Transport and Fax Address Book for Fax Mail Transport are not
installed by default as it may be preferable that not all Exchange users
access the fax; this is an administrative decision as to who has access.
