SYMPTOMS

If you change the Bits Per Second port setting for the communications port to which your Handheld PC (H/PC) is connected, you may be unable to synchronize your H/PC with your desktop computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Direct Cable Connection installs a driver for each port with a default baud rate of 115,200 bits per second (bps), and H/PC devices that use Direct Cable Connection default to a connection speed of 19,200 bps. This results you being unable to connect to your desktop computer using your H/PC.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, restart your desktop computer after you change port settings.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98.
