When the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service is configured to
perform server maintenance based on message expiry and the hard disk on
the server becomes full, an Invalid Handle exception error may occur when
the SMTP server attempts to create free space on the server's hard disk.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial
Internet System version 2.0.
This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
