Event ID 10005 from DCOM After Installing IIS (193646)

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Internet Information Server (IIS) service and perform a system restart, you receive the following error in the System Log of the Event Viewer:
   Event ID: 10005
   Source: DCOM
   DCOM got error. An instance of the service is already running.
				

CAUSE

This is a nonfatal error warning that the IIS service is already started but has not registered a class factory that a Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) client requires.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
