PPT98: PowerPoint 98 Guides Disappear (193546)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q193546

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Guides in PowerPoint, and add anything to the slide other than an AutoShape, or a Text frame, the guide may either distort or disappear. The guides will typically be removed with the exception of the part that is displayed within the actual object.

For example: If you were to insert a Chart into a presentation, it will insert onto the slide correctly. When refreshed, the guides will disappear with the exception of the guide in the area of the chart. The guide exists within the chart area because the chart itself gets converted and saved as the last good picture of the chart on the slide.

WORKAROUND

The guides are typically used to align items on the slide. You can reset the guides on the affected slides by following these steps and continue to work on the affected slide. The guides will not disappear until you refresh the slide by changing slides. Use the following steps to assist you in working around this problem:

To Reset the Guides

  1. Go to the slide that shows the missing guides.
  2. On the View menu, verify that there is a check mark next to Guide. If there is a checkmark, click Guides, to uncheck, and disable the feature.
  3. Switch to another slide and then switch back to allow the screen to refresh.
  4. On the View menu, click Guides to turn the guides back on. At this point, the guides appear properly.
NOTE: To continue to see the guides properly, you will have to perform these steps each time you leave the affected slide.

STATUS
