Euro symbols deleted after saving an Excel 97 document in Excel 98 for Mac (193431)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a file in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, all occurrences of the Euro currency symbol have been replaced with an underscore character (_).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you save the file in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

When you open an Excel 97 for Windows file that contains the Euro symbol in Excel 98, you receive an error message, and all occurrences of the Euro symbol are replaced by the underscore character.
