SYMPTOMS

You may be unable to see user information on the Internet Locator server (ILS).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions exists:

  • The "Do not list my name in the directory. People can call me if they know my e-mail name" check box is selected.
  • You are looking on the wrong ILS for user information.
  • You are looking in the wrong user category for user information.
  • The ILS directory is not refreshed with your user information.
  • The ILS is busy and is unable to process your logon request.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method:

The "Do not list my name in the directory. People can call me if they know my e-mail name" Check Box Is Selected

Clear the "Do not list my name in the directory. People can call me if they know my e-mail name" check box. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Calling tab, click the "Do not list my name in the directory. People can call me if they know my e-mail name" check box to clear it, and then click OK.

You Are Looking on the Wrong ILS

ILS directory servers are independent of one another and do not share user information. Verify that you are logged on to the correct ILS.

You Are Looking in the Wrong User Category

NetMeeting uses filters to categorize users in the directory. Only users of a particular filter are listed in the directory window. If you are not sure what filter is currently being used, click All in the Category box. This lists everyone who is currently logged on to the ILS.

The ILS Directory Is Not Refreshed With Your User Information

It may be possible that the ILS has not refreshed the user list. Press the F5 key to refresh the directory listing on your computer.

NOTE: Every 10-15 minutes, the ILS removes users who have logged off or disconnected from the server.

The ILS Is Busy and Is Unable to Process Your Logon Request

If the ILS is busy, it may have accepted your logon request but may not have updated the server list. Log off of the ILS and then try to log on again at a later time.
