PRJ98: Gantt Bar and Table Duration Do Not Match (193140)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q193140 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you assign a small value of work (such as
minutes) in the Units field of the Assign Resources dialog box, any of the
following symptoms may occur:
- The Gantt bar may show a duration that is slightly too long.
- The Task Usage and Resource Usage views may show extra zeros at the
end of the assignment in the timephased Work field.
- The Finish for the task may be incorrect.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when you assign a small value of work (such as
minutes) in the Units field of the Assign Resources dialog box. The length
of the task may become slightly greater than one day; however, Microsoft
Project rounds the Duration field down to exactly one day, resulting in the
discrepancy between the Duration fields and the Finish fields.
WORKAROUND
To correct this problem, delete the extra zeroes at the end of the
timephased Work field and reset the work contour of the assignment back to
its original setting. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Task Usage.
- In the left pane of the Task Usage view, click to select the
resource assignment for the task with the extra zeroes in the
timephased Work field.
- In the right pane of the Task Usage view, click the cell with
the 0 work and press DELETE.
- On the Project menu, click Assignment
Information.
- In the Work Contour list, select the original contour (flat is
the default). Click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
