The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98

This article was previously published under Q193007

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use a submenu on a menu, you may not be able to select a command on the submenu. Instead, when you try to point to a command on a submenu, you may open another menu, and the submenu may close. For example, this may occur if you click New on the File menu in Windows Explorer, and then try to point to a command on this submenu. When you do so, another menu (such as Edit, View, or another menu on the menu bar) may open. This behavior may occur in any of the following programs or tools:

  • Windows Explorer
  • Internet Explorer
  • My Computer

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, move the program or tool's window up (away from the taskbar), maximize the program or tool, or use the ARROW keys to navigate to a submenu on a menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.
