Connecting Windows NT-Based Computer to Windows CE-Based Device (192985)

MORE INFORMATION

1. Log on to the Windows NT-based computer with local administrator rights.
2. Install the latest Windows NT Service Pack (unless the latest Service Pack is already installed). For information about the availability of Windows NT 4.0 service packs, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

3. Restart your computer and log on.
4. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Ports.
5. Click the communications port that the Windows CE-based device is connected to, click Settings, set the baud rate value to "19200," click OK, and then click Close.
6. If Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or 4.01 is installed, uninstall it. To uninstall Internet Explorer, double-click Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, click Add/Remove, and then follow the instructions.
7. Close Control Panel, restart your computer, and log on.
8. Install Windows CE Services. For information about installing Windows CE Services, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

9. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.
10. Click Remote Access Services, click Startup, click Automatic, click OK, click Close, and then close Control Panel.
11. Reinstall SP3.
12. Restart your computer and log on.
13. On the Windows CE-based device, tap Start, tap Settings, tap Control Panel, double-tap Communications, tap the PC Connection tab, tap Change, tap "Serial Port @ 19200," tap OK, tap OK, and then close Control Panel.
14. On the Windows NT-based computer, double-click the Mobile Device folder shortcut, click Communications on the File menu, click to select the Enable Mobile Device Connection check box, click Enabled under Device Connections Via Serial Port, click OK, and then close the Mobile Device folder.
15. Restart your computer and log on.
16. Double-click the Mobile Device folder shortcut. The Windows CE-based device may connect and synchronize with the Windows NT-based computer.
    
    If the Windows CE-based device does connect, skip to step 17.
    
    If the Windows CE-based device does not connect, try the following steps:
    
    
    1. Turn the Windows CE-based device off and then on.
    2. On the Windows CE-based device, press the reset button.
    3. Unplug the cable from the Windows CE-based device and plug it back in securely (you should hear the connection event sound).
    4. On the Windows NT-based computer, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, click Network, click Services, click Remote Access Service, click Properties, click the COM port, click Configure, click Dial Out And Receive Calls, and then click OK.
    5. Click Network. Under Server Settings, click Configure beside TCP/IP, click Use Static Address Pool, type 192.168.55.100 in the Begin box, type 192.168.55.112 in the End box, click OK, click Continue, click Close, and then click Yes to restart your computer.
    If you still cannot connect your Windows CE-based device to a Windows NT-based computer, the connectivity problem may be the result of a hardware issue such as a malfunctioning serial cable or Windows CE- based device. Contact the manufacturer of your Windows CE-based device for additional assistance.
17. If you removed Internet Explorer 4.0 or 4.01 in Step 6, reinstall it now. For information about installing Internet Explorer 4.0, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
