SUMMARY

The Windows Messaging System (WMS) for Windows 95 and Windows 98 should be considered an update of the messaging subsystem of the operating system. WMS installs an updated set of Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) .dlls from the set that was installed with the original-release of Windows 95.

Because this update is needed in order to allow certain MAPI-related functions and up-to-date controls to function properly (Collaboration Data Objects [CDO], for example), many Independent Software Vendors (ISV) have inquired about licensing the right to redistribute WMS.

MORE INFORMATION

The following URL takes you to a Microsoft Web page that allows an ISV to register for the right to redistribute the Windows 95 implementation of WMS: In an effort to ensure that WMS is being redistributed only in conjunction with a developed product, the licensing process requests a name and brief description of the product with which WMS will be distributed.

If the ISV does not want to provide this information, for whatever reason, or if you are seeking a copy of WMS for personal use rather than the right to redistribute WMS, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
