INFO: License/Redistribute Win95/Win98 Windows Messaging System (192917)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Messaging, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 95
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q192917 SUMMARY
The Windows Messaging System (WMS) for Windows 95 and Windows 98 should be
considered an update of the messaging subsystem of the operating system.
WMS installs an updated set of Messaging Application Programming Interface
(MAPI) .dlls from the set that was installed with the original-release of
Windows 95.
Because this update is needed in order to allow certain MAPI-related
functions and up-to-date controls to function properly (Collaboration Data
Objects [CDO], for example), many Independent Software Vendors (ISV) have
inquired about licensing the right to redistribute WMS.
