The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 1.0
This article was previously published under Q192780 SYMPTOMS
When you connect the Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 to the Universal
Serial Bus (USB) port on your computer, audio playback may be choppy or you
may hear clicks or pops during playback.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
- The DSS80 is configured as the preferred audio playback device on
the computer.
- The computer does not properly support audio playback through the
PCI bus.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, configure the computer to use your sound card as
the preferred audio playback device. To do this, follow these steps:
- Unplug the USB cable from the USB port on the computer.
- Insert either end of the stereo audio cable into the audio input
jack located on the front of the DSS80 subwoofer.
- Insert the opposite end of the stereo audio cable into the audio
output jack (Speaker Out) of the sound card.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Multimedia.
- On the Audio tab, under Playback, click your sound card in the
Preferred Device box.
- Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Digital
Sound System 80 version 1.0.
