When you use a nickname in Microsoft Chat that starts with a non-
alphanumeric character, you may receive the following error message:
Your nickname request was refused by the server. Please choose another.
CAUSE
Nicknames on Microsoft Internet Relay Chat (IRC) servers are limited to 23
characters, and the first character must be an alphanumeric character.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
You can use non-alphanumeric characters in your nickname, but not as
the first character. Note also that the maximum length of 23 characters
applies only to the alphanumeric characters
