Fp_install.sh Error: Cannot Find Tar File (192630)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q192630 SYMPTOMS
When you install the FrontPage 98 Server Extensions using the
fp_install.sh file, the following error message occurs:
Looking for tar file...
Platform is <Platform>. (Where <Platform> is your operating
system)
Cannot find the FrontPage Extensions tar file in /usr/local/.
Which directory is the file located in (X to cancel)?
CAUSE
This error message occurs because the fp30.<platform>.tar.Z file
(where <platform> is the UNIX platform being used) is
either not located in the same directory as the
fp_install.sh script or it does not have the exact name required
by the fp_install.sh script.
RESOLUTIONMethod 1
When you are prompted, type in the directory where the
fp30.platform.tar.Z file is located. The FrontPage Server
Extensions installation will then continue.
Method 2
Make sure that the extensions file is named "fp30.platform.tar.Z"
(EXACTLY, but without the quotation marks) and is in the same
directory as the fp_install.sh script. For example:
"fp30_solaris_tar.z" must be renamed to "fp30.solaris.tar.Z" (both
without the quotation marks).
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FrontPage 98 for
Windows.
The third-party products discussed here are manufactured by
vendors independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or
otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
MORE INFORMATION
When you download the FrontPage Server Extensions, some Internet
browsers will rename the extensions file to "fp30_platform_tar.z"
(without the quotation marks), which causes the problem referenced
in the SYMPTOMS section of this article.
