SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play an audio CD using the Deluxe CD Player utility included in Plus! 98, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

  • You may receive the following error message:
    Please insert an audio compact disc; data or no disc loaded.
    You may receive this error message even if an audio CD is in the CD-ROM drive, and the standard Microsoft Windows CD Player can play the audio CD.
  • The screen color palette may change.
  • The computer may stop responding (hang) when you attempt to play the audio CD.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your CD-ROM drive does not fully support Direct Memory Access (DMA).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable DMA on your CD-ROM drive. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System.
  3. Click the Device Manager tab.
  4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to CDROM to expand the branch.
  5. Click the CD-ROM drive you are using to play audio CDs, and then click Properties.
  6. Click the Settings tab.
  7. Click to clear the DMA check box, and then click OK.
  8. Click Close. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
