The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 95
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q192390 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98 or Microsoft Project 98 Service Release 1 (SR-1),
when you insert one or more projects into another project, you may receive
the following error message:
Microsoft Project
Error writing updated settings to registry ().
In addition, if you are running Microsoft Project 98 (not Microsoft Project
98 SR-1), you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, you receive the following message:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module MSO97.DLL
at <address>.
CAUSE
These error messages may occur when all of the following conditions are
true:
- Your operating system is Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows
98.
- In the Insert Project dialog box, you do the following:
- You select multiple projects to insert.
- You click to clear the Hide Subtasks check box before
clicking Insert.
- At least two of the projects you are inserting meet the following
conditions:
- They contain an inserted project.
- The Link To Project option is selected.
- The inserted project(s) have been moved or renamed after being
inserted.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, under the conditions described in the "Cause"
section, do not clear the Hide Subtasks check box in the Insert Project dialog box when you insert multiple projects.
NOTE: After you have inserted all projects with subtasks hidden, you can safely expand them either one at a time or all at once.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
