PUB98: Required Space Value Incorrect When Running Setup (192372)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q192372

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Publisher 98, the space required for installation may be over estimated by the Setup program. The number appearing in the Required Space box may be 739 megabytes (MB) or higher.

CAUSE

This behavior is the result of the Setup program not correctly reporting the required disk space. The reported numbers vary based on the cluster size of the hard disk.

The actual space required varies depending on the type of installation, the file system used during installation, and the cluster size of the file system.

RESOLUTION

Because the Setup program is misreporting the amount of space required, you can continue installing Publisher by clicking the Install Now button.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the Setup program in Microsoft Publisher 98.

MORE INFORMATION

The following table shows the approximate space requirements for each type of installation option:
   Setup Option Space Required
   -----------------------------------------------
   Administrative 475MB
   Typical 109MB
   Minimum 24MB

These requirements may vary slightly depending on which options were previously installed, the size of the hard disk clusters, and so forth.
