OL98: Screen Does Not Refresh Properly After Multiple Finds (192329)

SYMPTOMS

After performing multiple Find operations on your Microsoft Outlook 98 Contacts folder the screen may not refresh properly and you may not be able to change to another view.

RESOLUTION

To correct the situation, restart Outlook.

To avoid the problem, always clear the search before changing to another view.

To Clear the Search

  1. Click to select the Contacts folder.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Find.
  3. In Look For, type a name and click Find Now. The view will change to Phone List view with your selection displayed.
  4. In the Find window click to select Clear Search.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. On the Folders List, click to select the Contacts folder.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Find.
  3. In Look For, type a name and click Find Now. The view will change to Phone List view with your selection displayed.

    NOTE: Do NOT click to select Clear Search.
  4. On the View menu, point to Current View and click a different view, such as Address Cards.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 above.
NOTE: It may take three or more iterations of this procedure for the following problems to occur.

  • The view will attempt to change to Phone List view but will stop during the screen refresh.
  • If you attempt to change the view to Phone List, it will no longer display this view.
  • If you attempt to view a different folder by clicking its icon on the Outlook bar or clicking it on the Folders List, the view will not change.
You must restart Outlook to correct this situation.
