Windows Messaging Update Prompts for Disk Number 2 (192312)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE Services 2.1
This article was previously published under Q192312 SYMPTOMS
When you are installing the Microsoft Windows Messaging Update from the
Microsoft Windows CE Services 2.1 CD-ROM, you may be prompted with the
following message:
Insert the CD-ROM disk labeled: 'Windows Messaging Disk 2' into
drive <CD-ROM drive>:
You cannot redirect Setup to look elsewhere for the files. You must cancel
the installation, which results in the message "Windows Messaging Setup
was not completed successfully."
CAUSE
The .inf file on the Windows CE Services 2.1 CD-ROM incorrectly prompts
for disks instead of pointing to the Disk 2 and Disk 3 folders in the
Microsoft Exchange Update folder.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, copy the Microsoft Exchange Update folder from the
Windows CE Services 2.1 CD-ROM to an empty folder on your hard disk and
then modify the Wmsset.inf file to point to the proper location of the
installation files. To do this, follow these steps:
- Copy the Microsoft Exchange Update folder (Floppy\Microsoft Exchange
Update) from the Windows CE Services 2.1 CD-ROM to an empty folder on
your hard disk.
- Using Notepad, edit the [Source Media Descriptions] section of the
Wmsset.inf file in the Microsoft Exchange Update\Disk1 folder to
reflect the following lines:
"1","Windows Messaging Disk 1","wmsset1.cab","."
"2","Windows Messaging Disk 2","wmsset2.cab","..\disk2"
"3","Windows Messaging Disk 3","wmsset3.cab","..\disk3"
- Save the changes and then quit Notepad.
- Run Setup from the Microsoft Exchange Update\Disk1 folder on the hard
disk.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows CE
Services version 2.1.
