When you try to play an MS-DOS-based game with sounds after you upgrade to
Windows 98, you may not hear any sounds.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your sound card is using a Windows Driver Model
(WDM) driver, the MS-DOS-based game is using Sound Blaster Emulation, and
this game is using Sound Blaster FM Synthesis for music playback. Sound
Blaster Emulation does not support FM synthesis.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, configure your game to use General MIDI (0x330)
for music instead of FM Synthesis. For information about how to do so,
please refer to the documentation included with the game, or contact the
program's manufacturer.
