This article was previously published under Q192117 SYMPTOMS
During an automated (or batch) installation of Windows 98, Domain Name
Service (DNS) settings for the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol may not be added
to the Windows 98 configuration, even though the correct DNS settings are
specified in the [MSTCP] section of the batch (.inf) file.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Dial-Up Networking is selected as an optional
component to be installed during the automated installation. If Dial-Up
Networking is installed during an automated installation, any DNS settings
specified in the batch .inf file are not saved to the Windows
configuration.
