PC Ext: External.exe Displays Dates Incorrectly after 1999 (191942)

SYMPTOMS

External.exe for DOS and External.exe for OS/2 may display the incorrect date for the years following 1999. In various locations (in logs and on screen), the year may be displayed incorrectly. For example: the years 2000 through 2009 display as 10, the years 2010 through 2019 display as 11, the years 2020 through 2029 display as 12, and so on. Or in some locations, the date 01/01/2000 is displayed as 01/01/100.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the External.exe program that is included with Microsoft Mail for PC Networks version 3.2, 3.2a, and 3.5 for MS-DOS, Windows NT, and OS/2.
