Error Message: Windows 95 Is Now Setting Up Your Hardware... (191798)

After you install Windows 98, you may receive the following message when
you start your computer:
Windows 95 is now setting up your hardware and any plug and play devices.
This message stays on the screen indefinitely. There is no way to close
the message box.
You may also notice several conflicts in Device Manager. These conflicts
vary from computer to computer. Some examples are:
- Direct Memory Access 04 used by:
Direct memory access controller
- Input/Output Range 0081 - 0083 used by:
Direct memory access controller
- Input/Output Range 0087 - 0087 used by:
Direct memory access controller
- Input/Output Range 0089 - 008B used by:
Direct memory access controller
- Input/Output Range 008F - 0091 used by:
Direct memory access controller
- Input/Output Range 00C0 - 00DF used by:
Direct memory access controller
You cannot remove the conflicting devices from Device Manager.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if there is an earlier version of the Sysdm.cpl
file in the Windows\System folder
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the following steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type sfc.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Click "Extract one file from installation disk."
- In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" box, type sysdm.cpl, and then click Start.
- In the Restore From box, click the drive from which you installed Windows 98.
- In the Save File In box, type c:\windows\system, and then click OK.
- Click OK, and then click Yes to restart the computer.
