Problems Sending Faxes from Word in SBS Environment (191753)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q191753

SYMPTOMS

When you send a fax from Microsoft Word on a Small Business Server (SBS) client using "Send to Fax Recipient," the file may show up corrupted in the fax queue.

CAUSE

The reason this may occur is that the SBS fax server formats the job and creates the cover page. If the fax wizard in Word creates the cover page, then the fax shows up corrupted in the queue, and will not be sent.

RESOLUTION

The correct method of sending a fax from within Word on the SBS client is to select Print from the File menu and then select the fax printer from the list. This way the SBS server handles the fax and cover page, and the fax will be sent properly.
