SYMPTOMS

When you forward or reply to an e-mail message, Microsoft Outlook 98 inserts an additional signature.

  • You have the Microsoft Exchange Server service in your profile, and you connect to a Microsoft Exchange Server to send and receive e-mail.
  • You create and use an e-mail signature by default.
  • You do not select the Signature option, "Don't use when replying or forwarding."
  • The original format of the message is either Plain Text or HTML.
  • Before you send the forward or reply, you click Properties on the File menu, click Send Options, and click OK from any of the tabs.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Mail Format tab.
  3. Under Signature, click to select the "Don't use when replying or forwarding" check box.

Method 2

In the open message, click Send Options on the File menu, and make your selections.

Method 3

If you use the Send Options to delay the delivery of messages, you may want to use this alternative method:
  1. In the open message, click Options on the View menu.
  2. Under Delivery Options, click to select the "Do not deliver before" check box, and type or select a day and time in the list.
  3. Click Close, and send your message.
