How to Send a Project Using an E-Mail Program (191445)

SUMMARY

The Send feature in Home Publishing and Greetings enables you to transfer an electronic version of your project from one computer to another. You can choose any of the following Send options:

• Sending via (MAPI Compliant) E-mail
• Sending as an attachment (non-MAPI)
• Sending via America Online
• Sending via floppy disk

A description of each Send option and the steps to send your greeting using each of these options is listed below.

Sending via E-mail

Use this option if your e-mail program is MAPI-Compliant. To send a greeting using e-mail, follow these steps:

1. In your project, click the Send button on the toolbar.
2. When you are prompted to save the project, click Yes or No.
   
   A version of your project that you can send in e-mail is created and a dialog box is displayed the tells you the size of your project, and how long it should take to download the project.
3. If you would like to see how your project will appear to your recipient, click the Preview In Web Browser button. If you do not want to preview your project, skip to step 5.
4. When you finish viewing the project, close or minimize your Web browser.
5. Click Next.
6. Click your e-mail program, and then click Next.
   
   If your e-mail program is not listed, click "As an attachment in an e-mail message," and then proceed to the "Sending as an Attachment" section later in this article.
   
   Your e-mail program starts and displays a new e-mail message that contains standard text. Your project (RunMe.exe) is attached to the message.
7. Enter the e-mail address for your recipient, and then send the message.

NOTE: If your project cannot be sent successfully in e-mail, the "Send by other means" dialog box appears.

Sending as an Attachment

If your e-mail program is not listed in the Send dialog box, then it is not MAPI Compliant. You can still send your greeting as an attachment to an e-mail message. Your recipient can then double-click the attachment to see your greeting.

To send your project as an e-mail attachment, follow these steps:

1. In your project, click the Send button on the toolbar.
2. When you are prompted to save the project, click Yes or No.
3. To see how your project will appear to your recipient, click the Preview In Web Browser button.
   
   When you finish viewing the project, close or minimize your Web browser.
4. Click "As an attachment in an e-mail message," and then click Next. A message appears with instructions for sending the greeting as an attachment to an e-mail message.
5. Select the disk or folder you want to save the RunMe.exe file in. You can keep the RunMe.exe file name, or you can change the name, but be sure to keep the .exe extension.
   
   Remember the file name and location; you need them later to attach the file to an e-mail message.
6. Click Close.
7. Start your e-mail program and create a new message.
8. Address the message to your recipients, and type a note if you want.
9. Attach the file to the message, and then send it.

Send via America Online

To send a project in e-mail using America Online (AOL), follow these steps:

1. In your project, click the Send button on the toolbar.
2. When you are prompted to save the project, click Yes or No.
   
   A version of your project that you can send is created. It's called RunMe.exe.
3. In the Send dialog box, click America Online (AOL), and then click Next.
4. Select the disk or folder you want to save the RunMe.exe file in.
5. Minimize Greetings, and then start America Online by double-clicking its icon on the desktop or by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, and then clicking America Online.
6. Log on to AOL, and then create a new e-mail message that includes the e-mail addresses for your recipients.
   
   In the message, attach the RunMe.exe file you saved. (Check your AOL e-mail documentation for details on how to do this.)
7. Click Send.

Send on a Floppy Disk

To send you project on a floppy disk, follow these steps:

1. In your project, click the Send button on the toolbar.
   
   A dialog box is displayed, indicating the project size and the time it will take a typical user to download the project.
2. When you are prompted to save the project, click Yes or No.
3. To see how your project will appear to your recipient, click the Preview In Web Browser button.
   
   When you finish viewing the project, close or minimize your Web browser.
4. Click By floppy Disk, and then click Next.
5. Insert the floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
6. In the Save In Box, click the floppy disk drive (usually A: or B:).
   
   You can rename the RunMe.exe file, but the file must have an .exe file extension.
7. Click Save.

Your project is saved to the floppy disk.
