WD: Language Formatting Lost with Word 97 Import Converter (191421)

SYMPTOMS

The Word 97 Import Converter (Wrd97cnv.exe) that was shipped on the CD-ROM for Office 97 and Word 97 does not preserve language formatting that is applied to text (to set language formatting, point to Language on the Tools menu, and click Set Language). Instead, all text is converted to the default language for the document.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to the latest version of the Word 97-2000 Import Converter.

WORKAROUND

To reapply the language formatting on selected text, follow these steps:
  1. Select the text to be formatted with a language other than the default.
  2. On the Tools menu, click point to Language, and click Set Language.
  3. Select the language you want, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with certain versions of the Word 97 Import Converter.
