SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Expedia Streets 98, Expedia Trip Planner 98, or Encarta Virtual Globe 98, you may receive one of the following error messages:
This program can no longer run. Click OK to acknowledge this message, and then restart the program.

Encarta Virtual Globe is unable to continue running. The problem may be the result of low system resources such as memory or disk space. Try closing other running applications or freeing up disk space before restarting Encarta Virtual Globe. (6-75221073741819)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Double-click <program>, where <program> is one of the Microsoft programs listed at the beginning of this article.
  4. Click Remove All, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish removing the program.
  5. Use Scandisk to find and repair any problems on the hard disk. To do so, follow these steps:

    NOTE: You cannot run Scandisk on a Windows NT-based computer.

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type scandisk, and then click OK.
    3. In the Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors box, click the hard disk. If more than one hard disk is installed in your computer, press and hold down the SHIFT key as you click each additional hard disk.
    4. Click Start.
    5. When ScanDisk finishes checking the hard disk, click Close.
  6. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  7. In the Named box, type itss.dll, and then click Find Now.
  8. In the list of found files, right-click the Itss.dll file, and then click Rename.
  9. Type itss.old, and then press ENTER.
  10. Clean the installation CD-ROM for the program. To do so, gently wipe the silver side of the disc with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth. Do not use paper cloth, which may scratch the plastic or leave streaks. Wipe from the center out. Do not use a circular motion.
  11. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then install the program.
If the issue continues to occur, there may be a problem with Internet Explorer. Download and install the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer from the following Microsoft Web site:
