SYMPTOMS

When you uninstall Windows Media Player, you may receive the following error message:
Advpack RegistrationOCX(): Error registering the OCX C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\quartz.dll

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Windows Media Player is running on your Windows 95-based computer when you uninstall it.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall and then uninstall Windows Media Player. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Windows Media Player.
  2. Reinstall Windows Media Player.
  3. To uninstall Windows Media Player, click Start, point to Settings, click
Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Windows Media Player 5.2 on the Install/Uninstall tab, and then click OK.
