SYMPTOMS

When you view the Windows Media Player Help topic "Make sure the appropriate video codec is installed," step 1 incorrectly states:

While the media file is playing, click the View menu, and then click Options.

RESOLUTION

Step 1 should read:

While the media file is playing, click the File menu, and then click Properties.

  1. On the Help menu, click Help Topics.
  2. On the Contents tab, double-click Troubleshooting.
  3. Double-click "If you have trouble using Media Player."
  4. Click "I am not hearing sound."
  5. Click "The appropriate codec is not installed in Media Player."
