PRJ98: Project Stops Responding After Changing Task Actual Work (191233)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q191233

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you edit the Actual Work field for a task in the Task Usage view, Microsoft Project may stop responding.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when all of the following conditions are true:

  • The Task Usage view is the active view.

  • Resources are assigned to the task.

  • Actual work has been entered previously on the task.

  • You edit the task actual work in the Actual Work field in a task table.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

If you do not have SR-1, you can work around this problem by forcing Microsoft Project to recalculate the project schedule. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and click the Calculation tab.
  2. Under Calculation, click Automatic. Click OK.
  3. Change the duration of any task in the project. This forces a recalculation of the project schedule.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Undo Entry. This returns the duration to the original value.
You can now edit your actual work.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, ServiceRelease 1 (SR-1).
