PRJ98: Project Stops Responding After Changing Task Actual Work (191233)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q191233 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you edit the Actual Work field for a task in
the Task Usage view, Microsoft Project may stop responding.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when all of the following conditions are true:
- The Task Usage view is the active view.
- Resources are assigned to the task.
- Actual work has been entered previously on the task.
- You edit the task actual work in the Actual Work field in a task
table.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service
Release 1 (SR-1).
If you do not have SR-1, you can work around this problem by forcing
Microsoft Project to recalculate the project schedule. To do this, follow
these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Options and click the
Calculation tab.
- Under Calculation, click Automatic. Click
OK.
- Change the duration of any task in the project. This forces a
recalculation of the project schedule.
- On the Edit menu, click Undo Entry. This returns the
duration to the original value.
You can now edit your actual work.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, ServiceRelease 1 (SR-1).
