The procedure for migrating NetWare users to the Small Business Server (SBS) environment outlined on the Direct Access Migration Tools CD-ROM may cause some confusion. This article outlines the correct procedure.

When you run the Migration Tool for NetWare (Nwconv.exe) from either Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) or File and Print Services for NetWare (FPNW) and the Transfer Users And Groups check box is selected, users cannot connect to the server.

The correct way to run the migration is to create the users through the SBS Manage Server console:
  1. Click Manage Users, and then click Add A New User.
  2. Migrate the data only, not the user accounts.
