Mapped Network Drives Disabled After Windows 98 Upgrade (191063)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade Microsoft Window 3.x to Windows 98, some of your mapped network drives may be unavailable. They may appear in My Computer with an "X" indicating they are disabled.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Internetwork Packet Exchange/Sequenced Packet Exchange (IPX/SPX) protocol was the only protocol installed in Windows 3.x when you upgraded to Windows 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disconnect and then reconnect the network drive. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Disconnect Network Drive.
  2. Click the drive you want to disconnect, and then click OK.
  3. Right-click My Computer, and then click Map Network Drive.
  4. In the Drive box, click a drive letter.
  5. In the Path box, type the path to the network drive, and then click OK.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each disabled mapped network drive.
