This article was previously published under Q190897 SYMPTOMS
When you try to use the Windows 98 Microsoft Backup tool to restore an
individual file from a Microsoft Windows 95 backup Set, the restored file
may be damaged. The resulting file may be 0 bytes.
CAUSE
This problem can occur when you try to restore an individual file from a
multiple-file backup set that spans more than one disk or tape. This is
due to design variations between Windows 98 and Windows 95 in the
implementation of the QIC format.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, restore the entire Windows 95 backup set, and
then delete any of the other restored files that you do not want.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.
