XL98: Can't Use Print Report Feature with Protected Worksheet (190631)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q190631

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you click the Report Manager command on the View menu, you receive the following error message:
Cannot print or edit reports from a protected document.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when you are trying to use the Report Manager command while the active sheet is protected.

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the following method to unprotect the document:

On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Unprotect Sheet.

Note that you can protect the worksheet objects and scenarios without receiving the error message when you use the Report Manager command.

MORE INFORMATION

The Report Manager command, which is available when you load the Report Manager add-in file Report Manager, gives you the ability to print several views and scenarios of a worksheet in succession. Because changing scenarios means changing the contents of cells, this operation cannot be done on a worksheet where the cells are protected.
