Cold Boot Hangs IBM Aptiva E-Series Computer After Upgrading (190603)

If you upgrade Microsoft Windows 95 to Windows 98 on an IBM Aptiva E84 or
E56 computer, your computer may stop responding (hang) when you turn it
off and then back on (known as a cold boot).
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact IBM Technical Support to inquire about the
availability of a fix that addresses this issue.
To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:
Method 1
When you start your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key until the
Windows 98 Startup menu appears, and then choose Safe Mode. Once Windows
98 is loaded, click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart, and then click OK.
Method 2
If your computer hangs, restart your computer and choose Normal on the
Windows 98 Startup menu.
Method 3
Disable 32-bit disk access. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click System Information.
- On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility.
- On the General tab, click Advanced.
- Click the Force Compatibility Mode Disk Access check box to select it.
- Click OK, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart
your computer.
