WD98: Macro Shortcut Key Assignments Do Not Appear on Menu, Toolbar (190072)

SYMPTOMS

If you assign a shortcut key combination to a macro in Word and you then add the macro to a menu or toolbar, the shortcut key assignment will not appear on the menu or toolbar.

WORKAROUND

When you create a custom macro with an assigned shortcut key, follow these steps to place the macro and its shortcut key assignment on a menu:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize. Click the Toolbars tab, and under Toolbars, select Menu Bar.

    NOTE: The actual menu bar will become inactive (grey) and a new activated menu bar will appear.
  2. Click the Commands tab.
  3. Under Commands, find your macro and drag it to a menu.
  4. Click Modify Selection. Click in the Name box and, if necessary, change the name of the macro. Following the name of the macro, type in the shortcut key assignment.
  5. Click Close.
To place the macro and its shortcut key assignment on a toolbar, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize. Click the Commands tab, and under Categories, select Macros.
  2. Under Commands, find your macro and drag it to a menu or toolbar.
  3. Click Modify Selection. Click in the Name box and, if necessary, change the name of the macro. Following the name of the macro, type in the shortcut key assignment.
  4. Click Close.

MORE INFORMATION

Any built-in Word commands that display shortcut keys on menus or in screen tips will automatically show key assignments when customized to toolbars or menus.
