Disk Space Reported Occupied Does Not Change When Files Deleted (189452)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Plus! 98

This article was previously published under Q189452

SYMPTOMS

If you click View Files in the Disk Cleanup utility included in Plus! 98 and then delete one or more Temporary Internet Files, Downloaded Program Files, or files from the Recycle Bin, the amount of hard disk space that is reported as occupied does not change in the Disk Cleanup dialog box.

This symptom also occurs if you delete files using another file deletion utility or at the MS-DOS command prompt while the Disk Cleanup dialog box is open.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Disk Cleanup dialog box is not updated dynamically as files are deleted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, click OK and then restart Disk Cleanup to see the correct amount of hard disk space occupied by the remaining files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98, version 1.0.
